The main character, Råka (Swedish for the bird rook, but also means something that happens by chance), tranforms from bird to human and joins a marching troup of Swedish soldiers.

The story goes on with he protagonist going into battle and hating it.

Next spread shows the protagonist after battle, disappearing into the forest and deserting the army.

The protagonist wanders as a deserted soldier, lost in the forests of Europe, slowly returning to the North.

The soldier finds a small cabin in the woods and decides to knock on the door.

The protagonist knocks on the door of the small cabin and unexpectedly meets a friend.
