Siida is how the Sámi, native people of northern Europe, organized their societies before being incorporated into the national states. These communities shared a sense of security, solidarity, and loyalty between their members, giving food with those unable to hunt. Nowadays, Siida is the name for a smaller winter group in today’s Sami villages, as the previous social order was dissolved after the 17th century.
De Hogeweyk is a residential area in the Netherlands for the elderly with severe dementia, offering them an opportunity to lead a better and more active daily life than in an ordinary care home.
