Residencies, webinars, courses and workshops for freelancers in the field of art and culture! Here are our most current tips for November 2024.

Open calls and calls for applications

Three-Month Design Residency in Germany

Accommodation, material costs, travel expenses, and a modest salary are included in the Pforzheim EMMA Scholarship. Since the residency is geared to young designers in all design disciplines, from jewelry to communication, applicants must be under 35 at the time of application or recently graduated, and must hold a degree. Apply for Studio Support – Stockholm City

If you are a professional (or recently graduated) visual artist residing in Stockholm City, with a rented studio in Stockholm or its suburbs, you can apply for a three-year support to help with studio rent. The application period runs from 14th October to 15th November at 15:00. Read more here!

Interdisciplinary Nordic Cultural Residency in Tivedstorp

From 19th to 29th May 2025, the Nordic cross-disciplinary residency in Tivedstorp invites professional Nordic cultural creators to gather in the heart of the ancient forest! Applicants must be residents of a Nordic country and active in music, film, theater, literature, performing arts, or visual arts. Fee, food, and accommodation are included. Apply by 29th November. Artist Grants

Konstnärsnämnden, The Swedish Arts Grants Committee, currently has several open calls.

  • The work and long-term grants aim to provide the opportunity to pursue and deepen your artistic work. Available as one-, two-, five-, and ten-year grants. To apply, you must be a practicing artist with works displayed in public settings. Apply by 13th November via The Swedish Arts Grants Committee.
  • International exchange and travel grants aim to support artists in creating, developing, and deepening international contacts. You can apply for funding to travel abroad for work residencies, exhibitions, or seminars. You can also apply to invite foreign artists to Sweden for shared work or exchange. Apply by 5th December at 14:00. Read more here!

Present Yourself for Creative School Assignments on Gotland

Gotland's cultural unit is compiling an activity catalog for Creative School. You can apply to be featured by submitting an activity you wish to offer. The region's steering group selects activities to include and recommend to primary schools. Submit a brief description of the activity and a presentation of yourself as a professional cultural practitioner. Apply as soon as possible. Read more and apply via Region Gotland.

Available Studio in Malmö

Verket, a studio collective of freelance visual artists, shares a large space in a former printing house in Kirseberg, Malmö. A 21 sqm studio is now available for SEK 3600/month. Contact contact@designannikacarlsson if interested. See more of Verket on Instagram.

Fika and draw/meetup – Helsingborg

STPLN’s Free Workshops for Freelancers – Malmö

Join new, short, and free workshops and lectures to sharpen your cultural entrepreneurship over a coffee. STPLN supports independent cultural and creative freelancers towards sustainable and creative entrepreneurship.

  • Sustainable Collaborations 5 November. Can you decide how to solve conflicts with each other in advance? This workshop explores how your artistry can coexist with external collaborators, and cover strategies for successful joint projects with others.
  • Social Impact Canvas for Professional Creators & Artists (EN) 14 November. kl 14-17. Measure your impact on society and explore new ways to support financial stability.
  • Stress? No Stress! (EN) lecture 19 November and workshop 3 December. Tools and the knowledge you may need to lead a healthier and more balanced freelance life.
  • Copyright & Contract 10 December, 13:00-16:00. Lecture and workshop with the lawyer Andreas Wendén, dealing with the basics of immaterial rights. The lecture will have a practical approach, with examples of what a creator should consider regarding rights and contracts.

Digital Lunch Meetup for Creatives in the North – Online

Various cultural centers invite you to a digital lunch meetup for cross-disciplinary networking. The event includes info about regional centers' activities, group discussions, and a workshop introduction on the Organic Process method. Join the video meeting on 13th November, 12:00-13:00. No membership required. Register by the day before.

Curious about The New European Bauhaus? – Gothenburg

Discover how this cultural-political project can benefit your initiatives. Join an info session with a free breakfast. The session covers the EU's New European Bauhaus initiative and includes a workshop on leveraging it as a freelancer. 14th November, 09:30-11:30. Limited places. Self-Leadership Course for Cultural Creators – Gotland

Self-leadership is essential for cultural creators. As a freelancer you generally can't rely on someone else to tell you how to manage and schedule your work or what commissions your should accept or decline. This course helps you set the right conditions for your work. Gotland Museum invites you to a self-leadership training on 13th-14th November. Led by Olof Svensson from the Culture Incubator on Öland. Funding: Two Days on Cultural Support for Freelancers – Online

Explore available funding, application processes, and criteria with national and Nordic grant providers during this two-day digital event. Scheduled for 20th-21st November. Learn how to create an application, get tips from artists experinced in securing funds for their projects, and ask questions to grant providers.
