The heart is divided into two parts, a left and a right half. The left part of the heart is a powerful muscle that with relatively high pressure pumps out oxygen-rich blood via the large carotid artery (aorta), to all cells in the body. From there, the oxygen-poor blood returns to the right part of the heart.
