Apply for a spot at Transit Kulturinkubator – Stockholm
Are you looking for a social environment and opportunities for exchange, a workspace or studio in Stockholm with colleagues, and support in developing your practice? If so, you should apply for a place at Transit in 2025! Applications are open from 20 August to 16 September 2024. Read more about Transit and apply on their website.
Apply to present at SPRAAK for gigs in Skapande Skola – Malmö
SPRAAK is Malmö city’s inspiration day for Skapande Skola (Creative Schools cultural programme). This year, the event will be held on 24 October at Malmö Live. If you want to present a workshop, you can meet local schools and students here, showcase your work, and network with potential clients as schools begin to select cultural programmes for the 2025-2026 academic year. Scholarship for those with a connection to Västernorrland or Jämtland
The Grafström-Sandqvist Foundation annually awards scholarships for higher education or further training to artists with a clear connection to the counties of Västernorrland or Jämtland. The scholarship is available to art students or professional artists of any age. Applicants must be born, raised, or registered in these counties. Apply by 31 August, more information on the foundation’s website.
Scholarship from the Gunvor Kamkes and Sven Joanns Memorial Fund
The scholarship of SEK 80,000 is primarily awarded to artists. Applicants with a connection to Kronoberg County are given priority. Applications must be submitted by 31 August via post or email. More information on how to apply can be found at Kulturparken Småland.
Apply for compensation for public art displays (IV)
Have you completed a public artwork? If so, you are entitled to individual display compensation. Register your works by 15 September with Bildupphovsrätt.
Artist Grants from the Swedish Arts Grants Committee
The Swedish Arts Grants Committee currently has several open calls.
- The Assistant Grant enables you to develop your skills alongside a more experienced colleague for a period of 5–10 months. The applicant applies together with the mentor they will assist. Fifty percent of the time is spent working as an assistant, and the rest can be used for your own artistic work. Apply by 22 August via the Swedish Arts Grants Committee.
- Project Grants are intended to support projects that enhance your artistic development, such as creating a new work, experimenting with form, technique, and materials, or testing new collaborations. Apply by 5 September via the Swedish Arts Grants Committee.
- The International Exchange and Travel Grant aims to support artists in creating, developing, and deepening contacts abroad. The grant includes support for international exchange abroad, international exchange in Sweden, and travel grants. Apply by 12 September via the Swedish Arts Grants Committee.
- Kulturbryggan offers support for new and untested cultural ideas. Are you less experienced in applying for support? Do you have a project idea that, through its subject or execution, could contribute to new and untested culture? Kulturbryggan likes unusual concepts! Application period 1-25 September. Apply to Participate in Winter Salon 2024 in Nacka
Winter Salon is a recurring, juried group exhibition held at Nacka Art Gallery, located in Dieselverkstaden, just east of Stockholm. Participating artists can submit up to three works, all of which must be for sale. Applications are open until 24 September 2024 via Nacka Municipality’s website. The exhibition will run from 30 November 2024 to 26 January 2025. There is no requirement to have a connection to Nacka—everyone is welcome to apply to Winter Salon.
Apply for Transition Study Support
Transition Study Support (omställningstudiestöd) is aimed at people in the middle of their working life. With this support, you can study and broaden your skills to become more attractive in the job market, either by further developing within your field or by switching career paths. Apply by 1 October. Showcase Your Work on the Kultur i Örebro län Platform
Kultur i Örebro län is a platform that gathers professional artists and craftspeople in Örebro County. Similar to Illustratörcentrum but with a regional focus and a broader range of art and cultural forms. The platform is for local practitioners who want to find a network or present themselves as available for local clients who might want to hire them, book studio visits, or arrange a lecture. Events and Courses
Digital Information Session on Cultural Grants and Funding – Remote for Uppsala County Residents
Would you like to learn more about the scholarships and grants available to apply for? Representatives from the Swedish Arts Grants Committee, the Swedish Arts Council, the Swedish Film Institute, and the Swedish Authors’ Fund will present the grants and funding they offer for individual artists or projects. Afterward, there will be an opportunity to ask questions. The digital session will be held via Teams on Tuesday, 27 August 2024, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Register by 20 August through a form provided by Region Uppsala.
Drink & Draw at Moderna Museet – Stockholm
Drop in for a free, creative after-work session at the café in Moderna Museet! Drink & Draw takes place one Friday every month. Paper and an art instructor will be available. No registration required. Upcoming dates: 23 August, 20 September, 25 October. Read more on the museum’s website.
Malmö Seriefest
Malmö Seriefest is a small festival focused on self published comics in zines and books. The fesival includes an artists' fair and a programme. Ystad Comics Festival
Skillinge Comics Festival is back—and has moved to Ystad! All events are free, and the panel discussions will cover comic reading from the perspectives of academics, adults, and children. Masterclass with Sara Granér: Exhibit Your Comics – Gothenburg
Seriefrämjandet invites you to an opportunity for those who want to take their comic creation to the next level: develop your comics around the theme of an exhibition! During a full day, you’ll explore and shape ideas on how your comics could be presented in an exhibition. You will practice presenting yourself and your projects, receive guidance on what you could do with your own art, and discuss your ideas with the group.
The masterclass has a limited number of spots and will take place on 8 September from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM at Göteborgs Bildverkstad. Learn more and apply for a spot through Seriefrämjandet.
Participate in 24 Hour Comics Day – Åmål (or where you please)
Challenge your comic creation skills by participating in the international event 24 Hour Comics Day: for the twentieth year in a row, comic creators worldwide will gather to marathon their own comics. The goal is to produce 24 pages in 24 hours!
From 4–6 October, Seriefrämjandet is organising a 24 Hour Comics Day event in collaboration with Bokdagar i Dalsland. Accommodation, meals, workspaces, and a city tour are included in the price for participants. Learn more about Seriefrämjandet’s 24 Hour Comics Day here.
